Okay, so today I was to write on MANCHESTER UNITED. I could honestly write an entire book (part one, two and three) and start an entire franchise like Harry Porter or Twilight, although if you like Twilight, #gositinacorner. JK Rowling is a genius and if you think otherwise then you deserve to be single. I probably should not get started on how much I hate Twlight and how all its fanatics should be quarantined in a land far, far away, not to come into contact with civilization ever again. Voldemort should have just finished Cedric Diggory off. Now see, he done come back as a sparkly, gay vampire. Anyway, I am sorry, I just have a lot going on up here but back to the matter at hand, MAN UNITED. So before I started this whole Twilight saga (all pun intended) and got so worked up, I was saying that this post is not enough for me to TRY explain my love for this club. However, I tried my best to sum it all up in 5 main reasons. Here we go.
1. SIR ALEX FERGUSON, OBE, CBE
This exceptional man took over the Man United reins in 1986 (yes, I was not born but neither were you so #) and has been at the helm for 25 years now. Fergie is the type of manager who does what he wants. His players know that they are not above him and any drama queen antics end in being sold (Beckham and co.) Every so often a lot of people question his choice of squads in games, (guilty as charged) like in the recent FA Cup win over Arsenal (we literally played with 9 defenders). But time and time again, the gaffer proves everyone wrong and with time I learnt not to question his decisions though I do not necessarily agree with them. He knows exactly how to handle his players even the hot-headed ones (the young Rooney) and always manages to get the best out of them. From nurturing Cristiano's talent to bringing out the best in players like Solskjaer and more recently Chicharito, SAF has this whole 'best manager in the world' thing locked down. I cannot say enough about him. He is the stuff legends (maybe even myths), are made of.
2. RESILIENCE
Now this is a quality that has been displayed by most UNITED (yes, I will write all of them in CAPITALS :p) sides from the Busby Babes to the Fergie era with teams ranging from the Cantona to the Van Nistelrooy days. However, it has come out more in recent times, especially the last few seasons. MAN UNITED have this 'never say die' attitude that even Wenger recognises. Just look at the matches against Blackpool, among others. Spurs may be the comeback kings but we are not too far off. The collective team mentality is that we are winners and anything short of that is simply not acceptable. It is this kind of mind-set that has made this great club a winning side over the years. They just do not accept defeat and will definately not go down without a fight. In short, IT IS NOT OVER UNTIL MAN UNITED SAY SO.
3. DEDICATION
If there is one thing that amazes me about UNITED is the dedication of the players. You look at players like Vidic, Ferdinand and Rooney out on the pitch and it brings tears to you eyes. The sheer concentration and willingness to do anything to win is just breath-taking. These players give it their all when they go out onto that pitch. They commit themselves 150%. I guess that is what it takes to play for a club the calibre of UNITED. Looking at old hands (or legs, in this case, hahahaha) Giggs, Scholes and the recently retired Neville, it is amazing the lengths these players are ready to go for their beloved club. They are Old Trafford faithfuls who are in it for the pride. This is what makes UNITED the envy of most clubs and contributes to the already bulging trophy cabinet (Wenger should consider selling Fergie theirs). The loyalty and respect shown by UNITED players is tremendous but that is what comes with donning the Red Devil kit.
4. NON-UNITED SUPPORTERS
I wanted to say haters but I didn't. Because it is my blog. Yea. Okay, moving on, this bunch of people really make me happy. They do. They always wish the best for us and right now are probably looking forward to us being RAPED (as they call it) by Barca in the Champions League final. Amidst all this, they forget that we are actually in the final and they ARE NOT. Another thing that amazes me is the way they say we are proud loud-mouths (and we have every reason to be, I believe) but they do the same when they win against some insignificant team like QPR. But one thing I appreciate is their taunting when we HAPPEN to lose (it is rare). I like it because it gives me reason to kill the people I do not like much then in court I just plead temporary insanity. I kid. I kid. Or maybe not, hmmmm. And I particularly like the way they say we are arrogant. We are not arrogant, we are just better than you. And as for the issue of us always thinking we are on top, we do not always think we are on top. We ARE on top. ALWAYS. But seriously, much appreciation to these people. You make UNITED reach even greater heights just to prove you wrong.
5. WE ARE THE BEST
This is not just my belief but it is a fact. Refer to yesterday's post that had all the accomplishments of now the most successful club in England. We are tied with Liverpool at 58 trophies in total but I am sure by the start of next season we will have taken our rightful place at the top of the pile and re-written history. I will not dwell on this much because quite simply put, GLORY GLORY MANCHESTER UNITED.
Okay, I promised a review of the weekend's games so here goes. The Stoke-Arsenal tie was traumatic (to Gunners) but entertaining (to the rest). The loss was especially hard on Arsenal, it being Ramsey's first game against them fit, after that horror Shawcross tackle on him. In my view, Arsenal never really showed up while Stoke on the other hand brought the game to them. Of course they did have the added advantage of being at home and the Britannia Stadium can be intimidating but Stoke were marvelous. Their defense was on its toes and their offence was razor-sharp. Arsenal were a bit out of sorts and although the Van Persie (I really do not like him, dunno why) goal was a bit of a consolation, the loss was still hard to swallow. As for the UNITED-Chelsea game, the little pea's heroics after 36 seconds sealed the Blues' fate and they never really recovered. Simply put, UNITED were good, no great. Chelsea were disoriented and that not only cost them the game but the League title as well. Oh well, good riddance to bad rubbish.
Aaaah, APPARENTLY, I have to do some work now so I will stop there. As I sign out, booyah!
